Janet Lucille Snitker

Janet L. Snitker, 83, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, March 5, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 9th, at 11:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ, with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating, and burial will be in the church cemetery in rural Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. In consideration of concerns regarding Covid 19, social distancing and wearing of mask is required. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Janet Lucille Snitker was born July 27, 1937, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Herbert Palmer and Clara (Olson) Larsen. She was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, attended Jefferson #1 country school in rural Waukon, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1955. Janet met the love her life David Snitker at Rainbow Gardens in Waterville, IA. They were married June 24, 1956, at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and were blessed with five children. Janet and Dave farmed in Ludlow and Jefferson Townships for many years. They also owned and operated Dave's Feed and Farm Supply "on the strip" in Rossville, IA. Janet and Dave sold bins for Superior Bins that earned them two European trips.

Janet's faith and church were very important to her; she was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and served on several committees. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and going for coffee and lunches with her lady friends. Janet was a very good cook and was known for her potato salad. Taking great pride in her lawn, she spent hours making sure it looked nice which meant she always had the perfect tan in the summer. She also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, going to the boat, where she was very lucky, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include her children: Bob Snitker, Julie (Larry) Magner, Laurie (Terry) Welch, and Herb (Julie) Snitker, all of Waukon, IA, and Jubal (Stacey) Snitker of St. Charles, MN; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Donnie Larsen of Waukon; brother-in-law Duwayne (Laurayne) Snitker of Waukon; and three sisters-in-law: Betty Larsen of Waukon, Patty Snitker of New Port Richey, FL, and Mary Lou Snitker of California. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband David, who died in 2006; grandson Kevin Magner; sister Bernice Snitker; and two brothers: Vic and Carl Larsen.

Honorary casketbearers are Janet's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her lifelong special friends: Lois Fossum, LaVonne Hesse, Sheryl Prestemon, and Carol Sivesind. Casketbearers are Bob, Herb, and Jubal Snitker, Cole Welch, Carter Snitker, and James Riley.
