Dorothy Ryan

Dorothy A. Ryan, 90, of Lansing, IA, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Thornton Manor in Lansing. There are no services planned at this time. Burial of ashes will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, is assisting the family. Memorials may be directed to Thornton Manor in Lansing. Dorothy Ann Ryan was born April 24, 1931, in Lansing, IA, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Murphy) Ryan. She attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from St. George High School in 1949, both in Lansing. After graduation, Dorothy worked at the Lansing button factory before moving to the Chicago, IL, area, where she was a bookkeeper for the Chicagoland Motel for 22 years. At the apartment complex where she lived, Dorothy was the property manager. She also was an in-home caregiver, which kept her quite busy and didn't leave her much time for herself. In 2019, Dorothy moved to Thornton Manor in Lansing to be closer to her sister Evelyn Burke.

She is survived by her niece Connie Hill of Grand Prairie, TX, and nephew Marv Erickson of Shreveport, LA. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother Meril "Fox Man" Ryan; two sisters: Donna Erickson and Evelyn (John) Burke; and two nephews: Meril and Paul Erickson.
