Wilma E. Jackson, 94, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17th at 11:00 am at Center Baptist Church with Rev. Reuben Grueneich and Rev. Skip Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery both in rural Lansing, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Wilma Erika Tolander Jackson was born June 22, 1912 in Center Township rural Waterville, IA, the daughter of Frank O. and Olivia (Erickson) Tolander. She attended Elon Country School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1931. Her dreams of becoming a nurse were never fulfilled because of a heart problem. Because of her heart problem it affected the rest of her life. On November 4, 1931 she married John Charles Jenkins they had two children and later divorced. During WWII she trained in Des Moines as a welder and worked for an aircraft company in Omaha, NE, working for a short time, before marrying Lyle Andersen Jackson on September 11, 1943. They moved back to the Waukon area where they farmed in Center and Jefferson Township for several years. Lyle died in 1979, Wilma moved to Waukon.
She was a member of Center Baptist Church where she held various offices in its ladies circles. Wilma was one of the early members of 4-H and later was a leader. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Wilma enjoyed traveling, wintering in Dallas and taking three trips to Sweden to find out more about her family history and visiting with her relatives in Sweden. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking especially Swedish pancakes and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Dolly "Joy" Anderson of Dallas, TX, Darla (David) Anderson of Hudson, IL, Gary (Sharon), Dean (Mary) and Gloria Jackson all of Waukon; a stepson, Lyle (Phyllis) of West Union; son-in-law, Elliott Wolfson of Waukon; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great- grandchildren; 2 great-great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; a son, Donald F. Jenkins; a daughter, JuliAnn Wolfson; 2 brothers, Theodore Tolander and one in infancy; and a sister, Olive Sivesind.
Honorary casketbearers were Elliott Wolfson, John Jay Anderson, Rob and Christie Neville, Christy Anderson, David, Terry, Christopher, Mickey and Guy Jenkins, Cindy Poire, Karleen Everett, Lorrie Grainger, Tracey Kersey, Tonette Smith, Jason and Darcie Kopischke, Amber Jackson, Jennifer Ira, Audrey Martin and Shirl Meyer. Casketbearers were Scott and Mark Anderson, Charles Jenkins, Joshua, Lyle Eric and Joe Jackson.
