William "Bill" G. Bresnahan, 95, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, April 26, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial with military honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until time of services at the church on Thursday. Martin – Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.
William George Bresnahan was born February 22, 1929, in Waukon, IA, the son of Andrew and Nellie (Donovan) Bresnahan. He graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School, and was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Bill enjoyed bowling and worked at the local bowling alley when he was younger setting pins. He served in the United Staes Army from 1951 - 1952, during the Korean War defusing landmines. Throughout his life, Bill worked at Bresnahan Construction founded in 1925. He worked for his father and later as the owner. Bill had many quarries throughout Allamakee County, retiring in 2019. He was very talented at maintaining and building equipment, and starting many new quarries. He enjoyed going to casinos, but he could mostly be found in his shop tinkering and cobbling together various projects.
Bill is survived by his sister Mary Fahey of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a great-great-niece and nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Lawrence and his wife Leonita; a brother-in-law Kenneth Fahey; and a nephew Charlie Bresnahan.
Honorary urn bearers are his nieces and nephews.
