Wilbur N. Marti, 84, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 26th, at 11:00 AM at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Wilbur Norman Marti was born on February 10, 1925 in rural Waukon, the son of Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Wilbur attended Jefferson #7 country school, and then helped his parents and other local farmers. In the early 1950s he moved to San Diego, CA, where he worked for ConVeir Aircraft for 19 years. When he returned to Waukon, Wilbur farmed with his brothers and owned and operated the Whispering Pines Motel for 30 years. He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, trapping pocket gophers, picking and cracking hickory nuts, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include 3 brothers, Gordon of Luana, IA, Kenneth (Penny) of Waukon, and Grant of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Marti of Marion, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Herman, Alton, Victor, Marvin, Lester, and an infant brother; and a sister, Alice Marti.
Casketbearers are Dayton Fish, Robert Marti, David Leas, Brad Decker, Dave Hansmeier, and Erik Hagen.
