Wesley Don Halvorson, 54, of Waterville, IA, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Marquette, IA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10th, at 5:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Greg Hamm officiating. Burial will be at Waterville Lutheran Cemetery, Waterville. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Thursday before the service at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Wesley Don Halvorson was born on June 4, 1957 at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, UT, the son of Donald Victory and Launee (Wood) Halvorson. His father was in the service so he spent his first 6 years in Utah and Delaware before moving with his family to Waterville, IA in 1963. Wes was baptized and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church, attended Waterville Elementary School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1975. He served in the US Navy from 1976 to 1981, attaining the rank of Gunner's Mate G2. He served some time stateside in San Diego, CA, but most of his duty was at sea and he sailed all over the world. Following his time in the Navy, Wes lived in Long Beach, CA where he managed the A-1 Home Appliance Store for several years and in Los Angeles where he was a route supervisor for Clark Forklift. He moved back to Waterville in 2006 where he managed the family farm, helped with his mother's apartment building in Marquette, IA, and did carpentry work with his brother David in La Crosse, WI.
An active outdoorsman, Wes spent a lot of time bow hunting and loved to fish anywhere he could, including the ocean in California, lakes in Minnesota, the Mississippi River, and local trout streams. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, gardening, and playing golf. He was very handy at all kinds of construction and repair and spent hours tinkering in his shop. He was always willing to help his family and friends in any way he could.
Survivors include his mother, Launee Halvorson of Waterville, IA; a sister, Debbie (Jim) Mink of Prairie du Chien, WI; 3 brothers, David (Kellie Kampschroer) Halvorson of Galesville, WI, Gary Halvorson of Monona, IA, and Casey (Teuka Harris) Halvorson of McGregor, IA; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald and an infant brother, Lynn Allen Halvorson.
Casketbearers are David, Gary, and Casey Halvorson, Jim Mink, Bill Halvorson, and Steve Petsche.
