Wayne K. Knudtson, 69, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, September 16, 2013 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23rd at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, IA. Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Wayne Kermit Knudtson was born on July 11, 1944 in Waukon, IA. He was the son of Floyd Clifford and Norma Orletta (Severide) Knudtson. Wayne was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. He attended the rural "Emmett School" in Union Prairie Township and graduated from Waukon High School. Following his schooling Wayne spent some time working for Cooney Construction in Waukon. Later he farmed near Rossville, IA with his dad and his brother Clifford. He maintained a dairy herd until a tornado destroyed the barn in 1990; after that he raised beef cattle and grain.
Wayne loved being around people and enjoyed going to machinery and cattle sales. He also liked to play euchre and pinochle and shoot pool. When he was younger he was an avid softball player and through the years enjoyed a number of trips to Las Vegas with friends.
Survivors include a son John of Waukon; 2 sisters-in-law Sherry Knudtson of Waukon and Denise Knudtson of Palo, IA; 2 nieces: Kirby (Matt) Jones of Waukon and Kasey (Brock Iverson) Knudtson of Dorchester, IA; 3 great-nephews: Jacob, Colin, and Mason Jones; and a great-niece Mya Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Clifford and Gene.
Honorary casketbearers are Joan Boice, Jean Cornelius, and the Northgate Care Center Staff. Casketbearers are Steve Kubik, Jerry Ewing, John and Lois Adam, Ron and Tami Renne, Vicky Nagel, and Earl Schulte.
