Virginia M. Knuppe, 75, of New Albin, IA, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27th, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, where there will be a 4:00 PM scripture service and a 5:30 PM VFW Auxiliary service. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia Marie Knuppe was born November 8, 1937, in Lansing, IA, the daughter of Everett and Leona (Nierling) Waters. She grew up in Lansing, was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1956. After graduating, Virginia moved to Minneapolis, MN, to look for work. She was a clerk for the Better Business Bureau for 12 years before moving back to Lansing. On May 22, 1971, she married Floyd Dean Knuppe at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. Virginia worked at the Lansing Button Company until she retired in 1973, to become a full-time homemaker; she spent a lot of time as the primary caregiver for her mother Leona and her husband Floyd.

Virginia was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 5603 in New Albin, IA. She was also a member of the New Albin Senior Citizens, where she held multiple offices. She enjoyed playing lots of card games, including canasta and euchre. Visiting with friends and attending community events were other favorite pastimes of hers. Virginia also enjoyed traveling and took some nice trips to visit family in Nevada, California, and Maryland.

Virginia is survived by her sister Shirley (Dennis) Stollenwerk of Rogers, MN; two brothers: Jim (Betty) Waters of Edgewood, NM, and Everett (Connie) Waters of Apple Valley, MN; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd, who died in 1997; two brothers: Charles and Raymond Waters; and sister Delores Lahmeyer.

Honorary casketbearers are Peggy Woodbeck, Cheryl Godfrey, Debra Catalano, Terri Jones, Vicki Stollenwerk, and Sarah Waters. Casketbearers are Jeff and Brian Stollenwerk, Tim, Jason, Jamie, and Troy Waters.
