Victor P. Byrnes, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 15th, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4:00 PM scripture service.

Victor Pladious Byrnes was born July 7, 1923 on the rural Hanover area farm of his parents, Larry and Nora (Zoll) Byrnes. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church and attended Hanover #3 rural school. Vic farmed all of his life on the home farm in the Hanover area where he raised beef cows and crops. He was a member of St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau where he held several offices and served as a past president. Vic was a caregiver to his mother for many years.


He enjoyed dancing, cooking for the deer hunters, coming to town for coffee and taking care of his many cats. Vic also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially the younger children and attending many of the family's special occasions.


Survivors include a daughter, Vicky (Brad) Bloxham of Dorchester, IA; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Bloxham, Stuart (Amanda) Bloxham, both of Waukon and Trina Bloxham of Dorchester; 1 great-granddaughter, Claire Bloxham; special friends, Alberta Benhart Sparks of Prairie du Chien, WI and Margaret Blake of Dorchester, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Clement, Francis, Garland, Lawrence, Patrick and Mark Byrnes and 6
sisters, Mary Steinhart, Gladys Quillin, Phyllis Haler, Anita Murphy, and infants Donna and Gertrude Byrnes.

Casketbearers are Joshua and Stuart Bloxham, Greg, Matt and Lonnie Byrnes and David Reinhardt.
