Suzanne "Sue" Rogness, 72, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 5th, at 10:30 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 4th, at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:00 pm scripture service.
Suzanne Rita Rogness was born on March 8, 1940, in rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of Mike and Cecilia (Sweeney) Schofield. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona, IA and graduated from MFL High School in 1958. On August 30, 1958, she married Darrell Sanford Rogness at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona. After spending a short time in several other places, they moved to Waukon in 1962, where they raised their family and have lived ever since. In addition to being a dedicated and busy mother, Sue was the bookkeeper for Rogness Sawmill and for her and Darrell's logging business.
Sue was an active church volunteer all her life. While in high school she played the organ at St. Patrick in Monona and since marriage has been involved at St. Patrick in Waukon as a member of the Women's Board, a lunchroom volunteer, and various other groups. She and Darrell belonged to the Allamakee Antique Auto Club. She liked to play cards and was a member of bridge club as well as several bowling leagues. Sue enjoyed music her entire life and loved to go dancing with Darrell at area ballrooms. Other favorite pastimes included camping, boating, fishing and traveling with her family. She spent a lot of time following her children and grandchildren's activities and loved hosting family events, doing her best to make each visit to her home special. Sue always showed concern for others and spent her life helping wherever she could.
Sue is survived by her husband Darrell of Waukon; her children: Pat Rogness of Ankeny, IA, Barb (Kim) Thies of Waukon, Jane (Gary) Fahey of Verona, WI, and Sarah (Tim) Waters of Waukon; 8 grandchildren: Chris and Ashley Kurth, Alexandra and Carter Thies, Marissa and Austin Fahey, and Brock and Colin Waters; great-grandchild Bralynn Mathis; step-grandchild Amy (Greg) Byrnes; 3 step-great-grandchildren: Thomas, Olivia, and Lucas; brothers: Tom (Mary) Schofield of New Albin, IA, and Larry (Sheri) Schofield of Elko, MN; and sister Deb (Bruce) Kubitz of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law Dave Rogness; and step-granddaughter Meghan Thies.
Casketbearers will be Chris Kurth, Carter Thies, Brock and Colin Waters, Austin Fahey, Jeff Rogness, and Michael and Larry Kubitz.
