Sharon K. Kerndt, 71, of Eagan, MN, formerly of Waukon, IA died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Augustana Care Center in Apple Valley, MN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21st, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at Lansing Ridge Cemetery, rural Lansing. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4 PM Parish Scripture Service.

Sharon Kay Kerndt was born December 23, 1938 to Walter and Gertrude (Barnes) Vinton. She was raised in Cresco, IA. Sharon attended Mt. Mercy College and graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. Sharon married Harold Kerndt of rural Lansing in 1961 as she began a teaching career. She taught for 25 years, the majority in third grade at West Elementary in Waukon. Teaching, along with supporting her husband's banking and farming career gave her a great deal of satisfaction.

While in Waukon, Sharon was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she enjoyed decorating and serving on various committees. Sharon was also an avid walker and member of the Waukon Park Board. Other interests included volunteering, traveling, collecting antiques, spending time at the Northfork farm and reading. She and Harold were also members of the Allamakee classic car club for over 25 years. After Harold's death, Sharon relocated to the Minneapolis area in 2005. Sharon enjoyed living in a senior apartment community, participating in activities and making friends from all parts of the U.S. Sharon experienced many challenges in her life and she will always be admired by her family for her persistence, friendliness and generosity.

Survivors include her son Clark (Susan) Kerndt and their three daughters; Miranda, Ava and Liza, all of Apple Valley; 4 sisters-in-law, Lucille Halverson of Waukon, Patsy Kerndt of Lansing, Dorothy Wiemerslage of Decorah and Rosemary Kerndt of Mesa, AZ. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harold Kerndt.

Casketbearers are John Kerndt, Tom Thomson, Cletus Rooney, Bob Wiemerslage, Brad Kerndt and Jim Kerndt.
