Sharon K. Jackson, 65, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 1st, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe and Pastor Danny Volbrecht officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Sharon Kaye Jackson was born August 13, 1944 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Earl and Norma Paulina (Halvorson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1962. Sharon was involved in a near fatal car accident in 1962 which greatly affected her hearing for the rest of her life. She lived in Cedar Rapids, IA for a short time where she worked at Rockwell Collins. On April 18, 1970 she married Gary Jackson at St. John's Lutheran Church. Sharon and Gary farmed together in rural Waukon for many years, they always kept their home opened for Joe and Eric's friends. While on the farm Sharon raised many stray animals. She also worked road construction as a traffic controller for many years, Makee Manor in the food service department and at Northern Engraving until they closed in 2008.
Sharon was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in its ladies circles, taught Sunday school and served on the church council. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, growing tomatoes, canning apples, cooking, baking, crocheting, singing, sitting at her computer, talking on the telephone and reading. Sharon also enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and family gatherings. Her family gave her the nickname Bug. Sharon donated her body to the University of Iowa for cancer research.
Survivors include her husband, Gary of Waukon; her children, Jennifer (Jeff) Feddern-Ira of Spillville, IA, Lyle Eric Jackson and Joseph Earl Francis (Sarah) Jackson all of Waukon; 4 grandchildren, Leslie Kay and Kathryn Ira, Tucker and Taylor Jackson; and a special granddaughter, Vayda Jane Schulte; 1 sister, Audrey (Leland) Reeder of Acampo, CA; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Donna) Johnson of Newhall, IA and Steven (Debra) Johnson of Waukon; 2 aunts, Norma Meyer of Cedar Rapids, IA and Lorraine Halvorson of Waukon; and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and one nephew.
Honorary casketbearers are Sharon's grandchildren.
