Ruth H. Miller, 89, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20th, at 1:00 PM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Douglas Mathison officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Ruth Hazel Miller was born on September 12, 1920 in rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Turk) Hansmeier. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and attended Elk School in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1939. On March 21, 1942 she married Leonard Jasper Miller at the Zion United Church of Christ parsonage in Waukon. They farmed together in Ludlow Township where they milked dairy cows and raised crops for many years. Ruth loved working on the farm especially with the farm animals which she would often name. Her dogs were very special to her and she loved each one dearly.
Ruth was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens, canning, feeding and watching the birds. She also enjoyed playing cards, playing Old Maid with Dennis's children, baking cookies, coffee cake, bread and going out to eat. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends and taking the bus to Waterloo, IA, to see her sister Bernice.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Jeanie) Miller of Corvallis, OR, Sharon (James) Boland of Decorah, IA, Dennis (Karla) Miller, Clint Miller and Rhonda (Kirby) Cahoon all of Waukon; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Larry Ramstad of Decorah, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard who died in 1999, a daughter, Janice Ramstad; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Berg; a brother, Howard Hansmeier and 2 sisters, Bernice Hawbaker and Delpha Hansmeier.
Casketbearers are Troy Ramstad, Mark and Renee Boland, Jonathan, David, Mike and Jodi Miller, Blair and Megan Cahoon, Joan Burgart, Nicole McCasland, Stephanie and Cody Radloff and Kristan Dahlstrom.
