Ruth M. Allen, 82, of Waukon, IA, entered eternal life on Monday, September 12, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Steve Oden officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Ruth Marie Allen was born on February 9, 1929 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Halvor and Maud (VanWey) Myren. She attended area schools and graduated from Postville High School. On April 15, 1946 she married Leslie Allen in Waukon. She was a member of New Life Christian Church, and a regular member of their weekly prayer team. As an act of obedience to scripture she partook of Christian Water Baptism on August 25, 2004. For many years she worked as an aide at the nursing home in Postville. As a volunteer for Hospice Ruth received an award for Hospice Volunteer of the Year. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and picnicking with her family as well as organizing the annual family reunion. She was interested in family genealogy especially that her father migrated from Norway.
Survivors include her six children, Sonya (Bob) Jedele of Kalona, IA, Mary Martin of Waukon, Duane (Barbara) Allen of North English, IA, Doyle (Terrie) Allen of Postville, IA, Lanette Burroughs of Hazleton, IA, and Darwin (Tammi) Allen of San Mateo, CA; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Jennie Mahr; a grandson, David Jedele; a great-granddaughter Carly Larson and 4 brothers, Upton Peck, Roland Peck, Harley Myren and Howard Myren.
Honorary casketbearers are her grandchildren.
