Ruben A. Shindoll, 83, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, February 4, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Ruben Aaron Shindoll was born on February 6, 1927 in Waukon, IA, the son of Aaron and Mary (Siekmeier) Shindoll. He attended rural country schools in Jefferson Township in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School. Ruben served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On October 24, 1964 he married Eileen Minnie Topel at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. They farmed together in Ludlow Township for many years where they had a dairy herd and raised beef cows and hogs. Ruben went to work for Northern Engraving in the late 1980's until they closed in 2008. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Ruben enjoyed traveling when he was younger, fishing on the Mississippi River, woodworking and attending farm sales.
Survivors include a son, Richard Shindoll of Waukon; 2 brothers, Calvin (Margaret) Shindoll of Waukon and Arden Shindoll of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Marian (Gerald) Cias of Eldorado Hills, CA; He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen who died in 2007; an infant brother, Harold; and a sister, Esther Schubert.
