Ronald Leroy Torson was born December 27, 1944, in West Union, IA, the son of Milfred and Marie (Anderman) Torson. Ron spent a good part of his life farming and when he was young, worked on turkey farms and also picked watermelons. On December 7, 1963, he married Sanda Lee Berg in Hawkeye, IA. Due to various jobs, they moved to several different towns in Iowa before buying their first farm in the Colesburg, IA, area. Ron also worked for the Ertl toy factory in Dyersville, IA. In 1983, they moved to rural Lansing, IA, to farm. Ron worked for Agriprocessors in Postville, IA, until retiring in 2008 and then moved to rural Waukon.
His favorite part of farming was all the exotic animals he had over the years. Ron loved his wild horses and enjoyed raising pigeons, peacocks, and guineas, among other things; he also liked going to exotic animal sales.
