Ronald Eugene Hesse

Ronald E. Hesse, 91, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7th, at 11:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until time of services on Friday at the church. Martin – Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Ronald Eugene Hesse was born November 1, 1930, on the Winneshiek County, IA, farm of his parents, Paul Albert and Clara Anna (Snitker) Hesse. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon and attended several rural Ludlow Township schools. On December 20, 1950, he married Shirley Gladys Adney at Salem United Church of Christ. They farmed together in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties, where they milked cows, raised pigs, chickens, and crops. In 2012, Ron and Shirley moved into Waukon.

He was a life-long member of Salem United Church of Christ. Ron enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching westerns, and spending time with his family especially his granddaughters.

Survivors include his children: Nancy (David) Clark of Tijeras, NM, and Brad (Joy) Hesse of Alleman, IA; his two granddaughters: Hannah and Haley Hesse; a sister-in-law LaVonne Hesse of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley who died on July 9, 2022; two sons: Regi and Dennis Hesse; two brothers: Orville and Roger Hesse; two sisters: Marian Straate and Ruby Teslow; and his step-mother Mildred Hesse.

Casketbearers are Randy, Gary, and Steve Hesse, Eric Elsbernd, Lyle Henning, and Larry Straate.
