Roger D. Vickery, 72, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26th, at 11:00 AM at Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville, IA, with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.


Roger Donald Vickery was born April 24, 1941, on the Ewing home farm in the Forest Mills area in rural Waukon, the son of Donald and Ruth (Ewing) Vickery. His father Donald died in a farm accident when Roger was two years old. Ruth married Keith Bloxham and Keith raised him as his son. Roger graduated from Waukon High School in 1960. He married Ahn Totton and they had two daughters Nichole and Alycia. Roger then married Linda Ashcraft and they had one daughter Tammy. Roger owned and operated many retail meat businesses in various states East of the Missippippi River until a disability forced him to retire. He then moved back to Waukon, where he did computer work at Ewing Featherbird Company and was involved with internet marketing. Roger invented and patented two products that he sold online; the Bite Alert, a fish alarm system and the Easy Share Pro a telephone interface system. He also sold nutritional products on the internet.


Roger was a lifetime member of Forest Mills United Methodist Church in rural Postville. He enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes and was involved with horse racing in Kentucky.


Survivors include his daughters: Nichole (Jim) Bailey, Alycia (Arthur) Gividen both of Georgetown, KY, and Tammy Vickery of Winchester, KY; seven grandchildren: Susan, Leslie, Peyton, Michael, Alexia, Katarena, and Alec; two great-grandchildren: Abigail and Zachary; and a brother Chuck (Maxine) Bloxham. He is preceded in death by his parents.


Casketbearers are Peyton Vickery, Alec Alejandro, John May, Arthur Gividen, Chuck Bloxham, Michael Vickery, Doug Ewing, and Jim Bailey.
