Roger H. Freese, 70, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21st, at 11:00 AM at the Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, IA. Burial with military rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Roger Henry Freese was born on January 27, 1940 in Clayton, IA, the son of Henry and Irene (Yohe) Freese. He was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clayton and later confirmed at the Waterville Lutheran Church. He graduated from the Waterville High School in 1958 and later served in the National Guard. On August 24, 1963 he married Susan Smith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Roger farmed for many years in the Waukon and Waterville areas. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Allamakee County Maintenance Department from 1981 until he retired in 2003. Roger traveled throughout the United States and collected caps and pocket watches. He had a love of farming and collected and restored two cylinder, mini and specialty tractors and read anything he could find about tractors and farming. He most enjoyed spending time with family, especially on birthdays and holidays.
Survivors include his wife Susan Freese of Waukon, IA; a daughter Pamela Mitchell (Allen Quandahl) of Waukon; three grandchildren, Nicole (Reggie) Schulte of Waukon, Lindsey (Paul) Deason of Harpers Ferry, IA and Loren Mitchell of Waterville; three great-grandchildren, Reid, Claire and Jakob Schulte; his mother, Irene Freese of Guttenberg, IA; two sisters, Joann (Ervin) Tackman of Garnavillo, IA and Paula (Serge) Sisler of Anamosa, IA; and his two pets Riley and Cisco. He is preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, Richard.
Honorary casketbearers are Lindsey Deason, Nicole, Reid, Claire, Jakob Schulte. Casketbearers are Rick Smith, Randy Smith, Fred Smith, Greg Smith, Reggie Schulte, Paul Deason and Loren Mitchell.
