Robert "Bobby" Rea, 47, of Red Wing, MN, and formerly of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 4th, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist, West Ridge Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Robert Allen Rea was born on November 21, 1963 in Waukon, the son of Raphael and Joyce (Huffman) Rea. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1982 where he participated in football and wrestling. Bobby was married to Amy Thorsten on August 11, 1990 at St. Patrick Church in Waukon. He grew up on a farm on West Ridge, near Waukon. His parents showed him how to be a hard worker. At age 15 he decided he would rather be a carpenter than a farmer and began carpentry. Early in his career he worked on home construction. Bobby was a union carpenter for Unistrut, working in hospitals and clinics in the Twin City area; most recently installing patient lifts. After work he frequently liked to grab his sons to have them help him on construction projects. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing.
Bobby had a big heart and would do anything for anyone. He enjoyed attending weddings, playing horseshoes, camping, bonfires, fireworks, joke telling, Tyler's dog London, working on cars with his sons and helping them learn the construction trade. Bobby called his mother daily and is deeply loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Amy Rea, of Red Wing, MN; four children, Jacob (Fiance Jenny Lance) Rea, Shea Rea, Tyler Rea and Allea Rea all of Red Wing, MN; his mother, Joyce Rea of Waukon; eight siblings, James (Judy) Rea of Lake Mills, IA, Pat Rea of Cedar Falls, IA, Rick (Lori) Rea of Decorah, IA, Pam (Bob) Winters of Waukon, IA, Mary (Kenneth) Hansen of Wyoming, IA, Carol (Dave) Hanson of Decorah, IA, Carla (Dan) Leidahl of Decorah, IA, Laurie (Eric) Kreul of Fennimore, WI: and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Raphael.
Casketbearers are Danny White, Dusty Wiebusch, Jacob Rea, Tyler Rea, Shea Rea, Bob Winters and Eric Kreul,
