Robert D. Carlton, 68, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon.
Robert was born in Sac City, Iowa on January 4, 1947 to parents Darwin & Loraine (Schnirring) Carlton. He was active in sports, band, & Boy Scout's. He went on to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Robert graduated from Sac City High School & then received training to become an official Court Reporter. He worked in the Juvenile, Superior, and District courts in Iowa, Nebraska, and Washington State.
He married Karen Vandagriff on September 1, 1973 in Rockwell City, IA. They lived in Omaha NE, Bellevue WA and Guttenberg IA before settling in Waukon.
Robert's biggest joy in life were his grandchildren. He also enjoyed coin collecting, attending sporting events, playing cards, joking around with friends, and telling stories. Frequent remarks he might make were "Judas Priest", "Just hold on, I'm getting to that." and "Who's telling this story anyway?" Robert always enjoyed getting to know people & was an active member of St Paul's United Methodist Church.
Left to honor his memory are his wife Karen; sons: Andy (Heidi) Carlton of The Colony, TX, and Matthew (Christina) Carlton of New Hampton, IA; grandchildren: Ben, Henry, Genevieve, Grace, and William; six siblings: Sherry (Terry) Evans, Butch (Judy) Carlton, Scott Carlton, Margo (Larry) Leveranz, Doug (Judy) Carlton, and Penny (Jeff) Schrader; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed by all.
