Richard Albert Schwamman, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Services will be held Wednesday, June 27th at 10:30 am, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Richard "Dick" Albert Schwamman was born on December 31, 1931 on the rural St. Lucas, IA farm of his parents, Henry and Cecelia (Panos) Schwamman. He grew up in the Lawler, IA area where he attended high school. Dick also lived in Geneva, MN and West Union, IA before moving to Waukon in 1950 where he worked for Russ Enyart Ford for 15 years. He moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1972 and worked at Ehnesrenk Auto Parts for 12 ½ years. In 1984 Dick returned to Waukon and was employed at Ralph Welch Feed and Fertilizer until his retirement in 1997.
Dick was a car buff all of his life, which suited his main occupation as a parts man. He also enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing. He enjoyed listening to and making tapes of his favorite country and western music and later in his life compiled a substantial collection of books.
Survivors include his 2 children, Janie Cecelia Schwamman and Billy Richard Schwamman, both of Colorado Springs, CO; and a brother, Clarence (Darlene) Schwamman of St. Lucas, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin.
