Richard Reed Meyer

April 8, 1947 — February 14, 2011

Richard Reed Meyer, age 63, of Madison, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Mineral Point Care Center. He was born April 8, 1947 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the son of Harry W. and Juliet (Reed) Meyer. He attended U.W. Stevens Point, and then served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Oscar Meyer for eleven years, before farming near New Glarus, Wisconsin where he raised Hereford cattle, of which he was very proud. In his later years, he enjoyed carpentry, maintenance and working as a handyman. Richard loved raising flowers and maintained beautiful flower beds and was a huge Badger fan. He will be remembered as an outgoing and friendly person who could (and did) talk to anyone.


Richard is survived by his sisters, Julie Wood of Lansing, Ruth (Dennis) Meyer-Provost of Salem, CT; nieces and nephews, Becki (Duane) Estebo of Lansing, Jim (Michele) Wood of Waukon, Amy (Jon) Hagen of Waterville, Jennifer (Brian) Palmer-Wallace of Mystic, CT, Amanda (Stephen) Palmer-Ipock of Moyock, N.C., Ryan (Jessica) Provost of New Britain, CT, Steven Provost of Salem, CT; thirteen great nieces and nephews, one great-great nephew, and his aunt, Ruth McKinney of Cedar Rapids.

A visitation was held in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home in Madison, WI. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 19th, at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, IA. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Honorary casketbearers are Jon Hagen, Taylor Wood, Josh, Jared and Jacob Estebo. Casketbearers are Duane Estebo, Nolan Hagen, Jim and J.J. Meyer, Jim and Logan Wood.
