Richard Arthur Delphey, 72, of Lansing, IA, died Wednesday evening, January 4, 2017, surrounded by his family at Silverado Memory Care Community in Naperville, IL. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 14th, at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's – St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, IA, with Fr. John Moser officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of services Saturday at the church. Richard will be laid to rest at St. Joseph's Paint Rock Cemetery, Harpers Ferry. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Richard graduated from St. George High School in 1962, went to work for Caterpillar in Aurora, IL, and lived in Plano, IL for 35 years until he retired in 1999. He was raised to love the outdoors and was an avid duck hunter. He also enjoyed his time spent at the Delphey Brothers' Marina in Harpers Ferry, IA. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their various activities.
Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years Mary Kay (nee Burke); two sons: Brian (Melissa) Delphey and Brad (Gloria) Delphey; 4 grandchildren: Brock, Andrew, Avery and Casey; brothers: Norman (Dorothy) of Harpers Ferry and Fred (Jeanene) of Waukon, IA; sisters: Diane (Duane) Engel of Tipp City, OH and Pamela (Thomas Gayther) Delphey of Waukon. Richard was preceded in death by parents Arthur and Patricia and sister Mary Ann Etscheidt.
The family would like to thank Dr. Benjamin Ross and the Veterans Memorial Hospital staff for the care they provided to Richard during his stay as well as the wonderful staff at Silverado Memory Care Community.
