Richard D. "Dick" Pierce, 82, of Waukon, IA, formerly of Waterloo, IA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, IA. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, April 22nd, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Steve Oden officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Richard "Dick" Dale Pierce was born June 20, 1930, in Orlando, FL, the son of Iona Marie (Murray) Brinkman. In 1935, he moved with his family to Waterloo, IA. After finishing school, Dick owned two service stations in Waterloo with his brother Pete. Dick was in the Army from 1953-1955, where he was in charge of radar for Chicago, IL and the surrounding areas, and received the National Defense Service Medal while in the service. After being discharged, Dick married JoAnne "Joy" Miller on February 11, 1955, in Chicago; Dick then worked for the University of Chicago. The couple moved to Waterloo to start a family, and Dick worked as a mechanic. Later, he would work for John Deere in Waterloo as an inspector and troubleshooter until his retirement in 1989. Dick and Joy moved to Waukon, IA in 1999.

Dick was a member of New Life Christian Church in Waukon, the American Legion in Waterloo, and Bass Masters. His favorite activity was bass fishing on the Mississippi River. He loved to travel; and spent winters in Florida and Texas, and also liked going out West and to the mountains. He enjoyed nature, and spending time with friends and family.

Dick is survived by Joy, his wife of 58 years, of Waukon; his children: Jeffrey Pierce of Independence, IA, Gregory (Denise) Pierce of Dunkerton, IA, Darcie (Gale) Klocke of Waukon, and Rick Wells of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother Ernest "Pete" (Margaret) Pierce of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his mother; two brothers: Jack and Donald Pierce and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Augie and Ruth Miller.

Casketbearers are Jeff and Eric Pierce, Gale and Nathan Klocke, Jacob Fouts, and Mike Snitker.
