Ray K. Hermeier, 73, of Iowa City, IA, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30th, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, IA, with Pastor Paul Snyder officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Raymond Kenneth Hermeier was born on March 12, 1937 in Waukon, IA, the son of Fred and Florence Esther (Klein) Hermeier. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1955 and went on to the University of Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, a Masters degree in Statistics and Correlation and a PHD in Psychology. He began his career with the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, WI where he was a professor of Psychology for 2 years and then with Triton College, River Grove, IL for 26 years. He moved to Iowa City following his diagnosis with colon cancer in 1996. Ray enjoyed reading, jogging, yard work and flower gardening. Throughout his life he exercised the good values he learned in childhood from his mother. He was always helping out others; the Waukon High School and Wellness Center have benefited from his philanthrophy.
Survivors include his twin brother Rick Hermeier of Iowa City, IA; a sister, Alice (Robert) Harkreader of Rockford, IL and a sister-in-law, Marcella Hermeier Waukon, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Oliver Hermeier; a sister, Gladys Dix and her husband Edwin Dix.
