Randy attended St Patrick Catholic School and graduated in 1968. He was also known as "Beatles" to most who knew him because he bought and proudly wore the Beatle Boots back in the day. After graduating high school, Randy enlisted in the Navy and served for two years.
On October 28, 1972, he married Diane Doubek at St Patrick Catholic Church. Throughout the years, Randy worked a variety of jobs and most were in the petroleum business. In 1988, Randy began to work for McMillan Oil and on October 1, 1993, he purchased the petroleum business from Mike McMillan and it became his own, Sweeney Oil Company. Randy owned and operated his business for over 23 years until he became ill and sold his business, retiring in April 2017. Randy loved his work and his many customers.
Randy joined the Waukon Fire Department in 1973 and was honored for 25 years of service in 1998. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Waukon Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed drives in the country and knew all the roads and people of Allamakee County. He also enjoyed sports, especially golfing with his foursome groups and socializing with his many friends. Each St Patrick's Day, Randy would either carry the Irish flag or drive his Sweeney Oil Truck in the parade and looked forward to this celebration each year.
