Ralph F. Schellhammer, 89, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Burial will be at Lansing Ridge Cemetery, Lansing, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Ralph Frederick Schellhammer was born February 8, 1925, in Center Township in rural Lansing, IA, the son of Charles and Alma (Schweinfurth) Schellhammer. He attended Center # 2 rural school. After he was done with school he farmed with his father. On December 6, 1952, he married Eunice Elizabeth Carlson at Park Avenue Covenant Church in Minneapolis, MN. They farmed the family farm together for 45 years, before moving into Waukon in 1998. Ralph continued to go work on the farm as long as he was able too. He was very dedicated to farming, he loved his land, the woods, and his cattle.
Ralph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and a deacon. He served on the Equity board of directors, Lansing Ridge Cemetery board and DHIA board, and he received the Pioneer Dairyman Award. Ralph loved playing baseball when he was younger and watching baseball especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children: Dean "Beanzy" of rural Lansing, Jann (Bob) Henkes of Apple Valley, MN, and Bruce (Cheryl) of Table Grove, IL; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one on the way; a sister-in-law Delores Schellhammer of Lansing; and a special caregiver, and friend Carolyn Homewood of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eunice who died in 2012; a brother Harlan, and a sister Marlys Berg.
Honorary casketbearers are Ralph's First Cousins. Casketbearers are Roger Ericson, James Beall, Matthew Schellhammer, Brad Krambeer, John Schellhammer, and David Hahn.
