Pearl N. Buege, 98, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29th, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Pearl Neva Buege was born September 20, 1913 in a small settlement called Jefferson, MN, just north of New Albin, IA. Her parents were Charles Oliver and Effie (Tippery) Darling. She grew up in the New Albin, IA, Reno, MN area, was baptized and confirmed at Grace Methodist Church in New Albin and attended the local area schools. After her schooling she did housekeeping work for several years. On October 10, 1932 she married Elmer G. Buege in New Albin. Pearl and Elmer moved to Hanover Township of Allamakee County, IA for a few years and then to Waukon in the mid 1930s where she worked at the Art Medsel Hatchery candling eggs. She also worked at the radar plant in Decorah during WWII, at the Waukon Bakery, and for Reva Steiber in her café/tavern in Waukon. From 1947 to 1959 Pearl, Elmer, and their sons farmed southeast of Waukon. Following that, they operated Elmer and Pearl's Tavern in Waukon until 1975. Pearl's last job was with Iowa Turkey Products in Postville where she worked until she retired in 1993 at the age of 80. She has been a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since April of 2011.
Pearl enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and looking for mushrooms. She loved to play cards and a good euchre game was tops on her list of fun things to do. She was especially fond of time spent with her grandchildren and always welcomed her family and friends into her home.
Survivors include her son, Alvin (Janet Bechtel) Buege of Waukon; 9 grandchildren, Jeff, Bill, Jerry, Allison, Pam, Carey, Kim, Kelly, and Tori; numerous great-grandchildren; and 2 daughters-in-law, Terry Buege of New Hartford, IA and Gwen Buege of Waterloo, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer, who died in 1985; 2 sons, Raymond and Ralph; a daughter-in-law, Rose Buege; and 2 brothers, Alfred and Clarence Darling.
Casketbearers are Skip Johnson, Ray Gress, Matt Cahoon, Cameron Schissel, Bill Jones, and Dave Zimmerman.
