Patrick Joseph Rea

Patrick J. Rea, 56, of Cedar Falls, IA, formerly of Waukon, IA, died on Friday, May 23, 2014 at his home in Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA. A memorial service at the funeral home will follow the visitation.

Patrick Joseph Rea was born on December 22, 1957, in Waukon, IA, the son of James (Raphael) and Joyce (Huffman) Rea. He attended Waukon schools where he participated in football and wrestling and graduated in 1976. After high school he attended Iowa State University for a year before serving in the United States Air Force for four years, and then he spent 8 years in the United States Navy Reserves. Patrick spent 26 years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Waukon before moving to Cedar Falls after his retirement.

Patrick was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching and cheering for his children's activities through the years. He had a passion for running and ran numerous marathons and road races throughout his life, often making it a family event. Aside from running, he also had a love for wresting and enjoyed attending Waukon Indian, Waterloo Columbus, Iowa Hawkeye and UNI Panther wrestling meets. He took pride in helping his children achieve their goals while in school. Patrick could often be found pitching batting practice, playing catch in the front yard, lifting weights, and running with his children throughout the years. He also enjoyed spending time with his siblings and recounting old memories. He had an infectious smile and enjoyed having a good time; the family especially remembers his love of the annual Threshing Days get-together at his home. Pat will be remembered for his endless encouragement and willingness to support his family in any way.

Patrick is survived by his four children: Paul (Kari) Rea of Cedar Falls, IA, Kara (Todd) Plagman of Carson, IA, Shannon Rea of Manhattan, KS, and Sean Rea of Des Moines, IA; three grandchildren Ethan and Oliver Rea and Amelia Plagman; his mother Joyce Rea of Waukon; siblings James (Judy) Rea of Lake Mills, IA, Pam (Robert) Winters of Waukon, Mary (Ken) Hansen of Wyoming, IA, Carol (Dave) Hanson of Decorah, IA, Carla (Danny) Leidahl of Decorah, IA, Rick (Lori) Rea of Decorah, IA, and Laurie (Eric) Kreul of West Union, IA. He was preceded in death by his father James (Raphael) Rea and a brother, Robert Rea.
