Patrick Edward Dougherty was born May 13, 1963 in Waukon to Ralph and Janice (Starkey) Dougherty. He grew up on the family farm in Ludlow Township and graduated from Waukon High School in 1981. In 1983 he married Darcy Harris and they later divorced. He was a self-employed carpenter and operated a window repair business. As a young child Pat started to play the guitar and as an adult played lead guitar and sang in many local bands. Music was a big part of his life and through the years he made a lot of friends while playing in bands. Pat had taken EMT training courses and for several years was a member of the Postville Ambulance Crew. Pat always had a pet dog, currently a Miniature Pincher named P-Nut. Every Christmas Pat played the part of 'Redneck Santa' which included writing his children Christmas letters. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, giving out nicknames to friends and relatives and always had a story to tell. Pat attended all the school events his children were in.
Survivors include three children, Heath (special friend Krista Marlow), Hayley (currently in college in La Crosse, WI) and Hannah Dougherty all of Postville; his children's mother, Darcy Dougherty of Postville; his parents, Ralph and Janice Dougherty of Waukon; five siblings, David (Brenda) Dougherty, Diana (Chad) Ness, Shelly (Randy) Vine all of Waukon, Brian Dougherty of Dorchester and Jamie (Tonja) Dougherty of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.
