Orris E. Leiran, 83, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4th at 11:00 am at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Orris Elmer Leiran was born on May 31, 1924 in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Martin and Inga (Brenden) Leiran. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm in Makee Township, east of Waukon. He attended the rural "Fan School" and became a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Later, he attended Waukon High School. Orris served in the US Army in 1945 and then spent a year in California before returning home. He spent his working days helping on the family farm until 1974 when he moved to Waukon. Following his move, he worked at Interstate Producers Livestock Sales Barn. For a number of years, Orris lived at Makee Manor and since 1993 he has been a resident at Northgate Care Center.
Survivors include a brother, Edwin Leiran of Waukon, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Helmer "Marlin" Leiran; and a sister, Iona Leiran.
Honorary casketbearers are Robert Hanson, Bill Steffenson, Verdine Berns, Jim Moe and Oliver Roderick. Casketbearers are Gary, Tom, Rick, Jeff, Larre and Jon Leiran.
