Norma E. Henning, 84, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14th at 11:00 am at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Tom Buresh officiating. Burial will be in Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, IA. Friends may call from 2:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Norma Esther Henning was born on September 26, 1923 in Allamakee County, rural Waukon. She was the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Snitker) Schmidt. Norma was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in Ludlow Township and attended Emmet rural school, and graduated from Waukon High School. On November 26, 1943 she married Irvin Theodore Henning at Zalmona Presbyterian Church. They lived in the Waukon and Frankville area, where they farmed in Ludlow Township for many years. Norma was a member of Frankville Presbyterian Church while they lived there. She was a member of Zalmona Presbyterian Church where she was active in its ladies groups. Norma volunteered at the Senior Site in Waukon. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music and taking care of her flowers.
Survivors include her 6 children, Ron (Peggy) Henning of Decorah, IA, Ann (Dave) Clark of San Diego, CA, Darrell (Mary) Henning of Postville, IA, Mark (Deb Dissell) Henning of Dubuque, IA, Kim (Mike) Zenor of Deerfield, IL and Scott (Cheryl Rice) Henning of Highwood, IL; 13 grandchildren and their familes, Wade (Cathryn Meyer) Henning, Devon (Rick) Wagner and their children, Tanner and Danielle, Beth (Dan) Knudsvig and their children, Henry and Wyatt, Ayrn (Benji) Nichols, Ryan (Jennifer) Clark and their children, Aiden and Kaitlin, Kasey (Christian) Christensen, Todd (Melanie) Henning and their children, Haley, Jacob and Hannah, Mark (Stephanie) Henning and their children, Dylan, Loden and Owen, Matt Henning, Kelley (Nick Mercer) Henning, Kala Henning and Emily and Chester Zenor; 3 sisters, Jean (Keith) Hastings of Waukon, Clara (Robert) Heaton of Greensville, SC, and Dorothy (Robert) Thompson of Cedar Rapids, IA; and a brother, Henry (Joy) Schmidt of Waukon;. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin who died in 1985; and a sister, Caroline Koth.
Casketbearers were Wade and Tanner Henning, Dan Knudsvig, Ayrn and Benji Nichols, Kelley and Kala Henning.
