Nancy E. Olson, 70, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 16th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be held in St. Peter Cemetery, Denver, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Nancy Eileene Olson was born on January 25, 1939 in Mount Pleasant, IA, the daughter of Samuel and Myrtle (Zehr) Elder. She was baptized and confirmed at Wayland Mennonite Church. Nancy graduated from Wayland High School in 1957 and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, IA in 1961. She did graduate work at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. On August 6, 1963 she married Wendell William Alfred Olson at the Wayland Mennonite Church in Wayland. Nancy was a Home Economics teacher for several years in Garwin, Britt and Allison. She and Wendell moved to Waukon in 1972 where they owned and operated the Village Motel for ten years. In 1982, they purchased the Anderson Feed Store in Waukon, which they operated for twelve years. Nancy also was a Librarian at the Waukon Library for many years.
Nancy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and Altar Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, playing cards with her card club, reading, cooking, traveling, shopping, sewing and working in her flower garden.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Erika (Bryan) Fish of Waukon, IA, Kristen (Jamie) Freier of Omaha, NE and Sarah Olson of Decorah, IA; 4 grandchildren, Travis, Jillian and Jenna Fish and Brigita Freier; a sister, Bonnie Hirschy of Wayland, IA; a brother, James Elder of Irwin, IA and special friends, Jean and Joe Kroack of Waukon, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell who died in 1994; a sister-in-law, Joyce Elder and a brother-in-law, Duwaine Hirschy.
Casketbearers are Bryan Fish, Jamie Freier, Joe Kroack, Darrell Schultz, Leonard Waters and Cletus Fish.
