Nancy Kay Evanson was born on March 17, 1957 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Melbourne Rema and Helen Delores (Aure) Evanson. She was baptized while in the hospital and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Nancy faced serious health issues from the time of her birth and was lovingly cared for by her family at home until the age of 7 when she went to live at the Tommy Dale Children's Home in Sioux City, IA. In 1978 she became a resident of Thornton Manor in Lansing, IA, where she has lived ever since.
Nancy had a vibrant personality and an infectious giggle when she was happy. She liked music and singing and enjoyed food, especially rommegrot, a Norwegian cream mush her mother made for her. She loved visits from her family and being around people and was very appreciative of the personal care she received from the staff at Thornton Manor.
Survivors include her mother, Helen Evanson of Waukon; 4 sisters, Shirley Aure of Waukon, Phyllis (Bob) Waters and Sandra (Bob) Reinke, both of New Albin, IA, and Mary (Bill) Bleckwehl of Northfield, MN; 3 brothers, James (Vicki) Evanson and Steven (Sheryl) Evanson, both of Waterville, IA, and David Evanson of Waukon; a half-sister, Linda (Bob) James of Grants Pass, OR; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Melbourne.
Casketbearers are her brothers and brothers-in-law.
