Milton H. Turner, 89, of Postville, IA, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at Good Samaritan Center in Postville. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 13th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Pastor Bill Odermann officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until time of services at the church on Tuesday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements for the family.
Milton Harold Turner was born October 31, 1928, to Harold and Ruby (Martens) Turner in Postville, IA. He attended Bloomfield #3 school near Castalia and graduated from Postville High School, in 1946. After graduating, Milton worked for Waters Dairy in Postville. While at a dance in Guttenberg, he met Mary Levenhagen and they were married on June 11, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, IA. In 1953, the couple began dairy farming in Allamakee County. Milton began working at the Postville Farmer's Coop in the mid 1970's and then went to work for Waukon Equity Coop in 1990. Upon retirement, Milton and Mary continued living in Waukon.
While farming, Milton was active in several farm-related organizations. He was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waukon. Milton loved boating with family on the Mississippi, carried on a family tradition of woodworking, appreciated history and was always interested in visiting new places. He and Mary belonged to a couple of card clubs, spent time square dancing, and enjoyed live theatre. Milton liked watching sports, playing golf and loved to tell stories about farming with his John Deere tractors.
Survivors include his seven children: Craig (Ruth) Turner of Iowa Falls, IA, Richard (Celeste) Turner of McGregor, IA, Brenda (Alan) Steffens of Clermont, IA, Dennis (Nancy) Turner of Postville, Randy Turner of Placerville, CA, Mary Beth (Steve) Snitker of Postville, and Debra (Neal) Horns of Postville; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Bea Lenth of Postville, Mary Rush of Arvada, CO, and Janice (Gary) Maxwell of Bakersfield, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary who died in 2014; and two brothers-in-law: Eldon Lenth and Gene Rush.
