Jean Larson, 95, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, August 18, 2014, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22nd, at 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at God's Acre Cemetery, Clermont, IA. Friends may call from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Mildred Jean Larson was born May 30, 1919, on her grandparents' farm in rural Monona, IA, the daughter of Joseph LaVern and Alys Gertrude (Clausen) Flack. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith and attended Ion country school in rural Monona. On March 1, 1935, she married Clarence Gilman Larson at the Waterville Lutheran Church parsonage in Waterville, IA. Jean and Clarence farmed together for many years before retiring in 1975. They moved into Waukon in 1994. Jean has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since August of 2012.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Jean enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, embroidering her quilts, fishing, and playing cards.
Survivors include her children: Robert Larson of Waterville, IA, Shirley (Kermit) Peterson of Rudd, IA, Sharon (Daniel) Sonnicksen of Oelwein, IA, and Sandi (Mitchell) Schnuelle of Castalia, IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Ethel Flack of Monona, IA; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence of 63 years who died in 1998; a daughter-in-law Eleanor Larson; and three brothers: Manford, Marvin, and Wayne Flack.
Casketbearers are Rick and Russell Larson, Roger, Ryan, and Reid Peterson, and Jeremy Hansmeier.
