Mildred M. Brooks, 98, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 13th, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Pastor Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be at Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, IA. Friends may call one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Good Samaritan Society, or Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mildred Margaret Brooks was born September 23, 1916, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Irvin A. and Anna C. (Nelson) McShane. She attended rural country schools and graduated from Waukon High School in 1934. On February 22, 1936, she married Allen Everett Brooks in Castalia, IA. During the Depression they sharecropped on the John Hager farm with 26 acres of work land. In 1937, they moved to the Henderson farm on Yellow River and also sharecropped there, and in 1954, they bought the John Hager farm. Mildred was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and its ladies groups.
Survivors include a son Clair (Sandra) Brooks of Waterloo, IA; two grandchildren: Brian (Mary) Brooks and Karen (Jesse) Iverson; five great-grandchildren: Shayla, Ian, and Curran Brooks, and Jacob and Matthew Iverson. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allen who died in 1974; a son Kermit; a brother Harold McShane, and an infant sister.
