May Lou Kiesau, 92, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Good Samaritan Center, Veterans Memorial Hospital, or Oakland Cemetery, all in Waukon.
May Lou Kiesau was born on September 2, 1916 in Oakes, ND, the daughter of Fred and Vesta (Siekmeier) Carpenter. As a young girl she moved with her sister to Waukon where she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Sim and Mattie Ludeking. She graduated from Waukon High School and attended Waukon Jr. College for 2 years. On January 6, 1938 May Lou married Willard C. "Bud" Kiesau in Waukon. May Lou was an immaculate housekeeper and liked spending time in her garden. She was fond of the outdoors, appreciated the various plants and animals and enjoyed keeping up with activities on the family farm. May Lou was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its ladies organizations as well as VOV Service Club. She also enjoyed traveling with Bud and playing cards whenever she got the chance. Some of her favorite times were spent getting together with her family and meeting her friends for coffee or to go out to eat.
Survivors include 2 children, Mary (Don) Ubben of Waterloo, IA and James (Jill) Kiesau of Waukon; and 2 grandchildren, David Tjaden of Chaska, MN and his children Joe and Karly, and Tom (Buffi) Tjaden of Cedar Falls, IA and their children Tayler, Carter and Carson. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bud, who died in 1983; a brother, Ivan Carpenter; a sister, Lois Carpenter; and a sister-in-law, Erma Fritz.
