Mary A. Stone, 73, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Per Mary's wishes, no services will be held. Burial of ashes will at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements. Mary Alice Stone was born July 4, 1948, at Hall Maternity Hospital in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Thomas and Alice (Steffenson) Stone. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and graduated from Waukon High School in 1966. Mary then moved to Decorah, IA, and worked at Northwestern Bell, Luther College in the admissions office, and Matter's Ballroom. On September 21, 1974, she married Billie Noecker at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. After they divorced, Mary moved back to Waukon in 1986, working various jobs at Northern Engraving, Lansing Company, Good Samaritan Society, Northgate Care Center, in the deli at Quillin's, and did in home daycare.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, and made a great potato salad. Mary loved doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and usually had one in progress. An avid reader, she loved Sue Grafton books and mysteries and also enjoyed watching classic and Christmas movies. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her three children: Billy (fiancée Marites) Noecker of New Town, ND, Rachel Noecker of Waukon, and Sarah (Thor) Haugen of Harmony, MN; three grandchildren: Sully, Aurora, and Wulf Haugen; her siblings: Darrell (Jean) Stone of Waukon, Wayne (Nona) Stone of Decorah, Rita (Steve) Kunkle of Fredericksburg, IA, Tim (Wendy) Stone of Anamosa, IA, and Lori Becker of New Hampton, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Kathryn "Katie" Giese and Linda Gerleman.
