Mary Jane Nagel was born April 10, 1940, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of William and Anna (Timmerman) Ferguson. She attended country schools in the Waukon area. On April 17, 1955, Mary married Roland Verni Nagel at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Besides being a busy mother raising six children, Mary farmed with Roland in the Ludlow Township area and drove school bus.

She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, IA, and belonged to bowling leagues in the Women's Bowling Association. Bowling was something she loved doing and traveled around for tournaments, including playing in Las Vegas. Mary liked to travel and was an animal lover; she spent many winters taking her motorhome to Texas with her dogs and ducks she raised. Enjoying the outdoors, Mary liked fishing, bird watching, and gardening; she loved growing flowers, plants, and vegetables. She also liked doing puzzles, cross stitching, and playing cards, especially euchre. Mary was loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

Mary is survived by five children: Ronald Nagel of Louisiana, Jerry (Cheri) Nagel of Cedar Rapids, IA, Nancy (Mike) Tangen of Stoddard, WI, Susan (Anthony) Stumbo of Waukon, and Lori Nagel of Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother Jason (Arleen) Ferguson of Waukon; and sister-in-law Judy Ferguson of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roland, who died in 1997; her son John; and her brother Kenneth Ferguson.
