Mary Ellen McMillan, 91, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, September 21, 2018, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1st, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 1:45 PM scripture service.
Mary Ellen McMillan was born June 15, 1927, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Frank and Cora (Donavan) Gavin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church and attended St. Patrick Catholic School, both in Waukon. On November 22, 1947, she married Roger McMillan at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mary Ellen was very particular and had a routine on how she did the housekeeping and other day to day chores.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Patrick School, helping with the hot lunch program for many years. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, cooking, and baking, especially bread and pies; rhubarb and apple pies were her favorite. Mary Ellen was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and Atlanta Braves fan and she also enjoyed watching cooking shows on TV.
Survivors include her children: Cathy (John) Sheeley of Marion, IA, Diane (Robert) Seibert of Pendleton, NY, and Patrick (Kathy) McMillan and Mike (Sue) McMillan, both of Waukon; 11 grandchildren: Kelly (Gary) Brinkmann, Molly (Chad) Breitbach, Jenny (Gordon) Dirks, Nicole and Meghan Seibert, Stephanie (Dave) Kuropatwinski, Matt, Chelsea, Morgan, and Mason McMillan, and Katie (Brad) Stahl; and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roger, who died in 1989; a son Danny; a granddaughter Lindsey McMillan; a great-granddaughter Bailey Brinkmann; and two brothers: Vernon "Bud" and Harold Gavin.
