Mary L. Intlekofer, 90, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 26th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes and Fr. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements. Mary Lucille Intlekofer was born April 25, 1925, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Doehler) Intlekofer. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in Waukon in 1942, and then in 1947, earned a B.A. degree in mathematics from St. Teresa's College in Winona, MN. Mary lived most of her life in Waukon until 1981, when she and her mother moved to Cedar Rapids, IA, where they lived with her sister and brother-in-law Ruth Ann and Karl Kelleher. In September 2009, Mary moved to Higley Mansion Care Center where she resided until moving into Manor Care.
Mary belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, the Indian Creek Nature Center, and Defenders of Wildlife. She enjoyed attending the nature center activities and being outdoors. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and collecting coins and stamps. Also, she was noted for the speed and accuracy with which she could mentally figure math equations.
Mary is survived by her sister Ruth Ann Kelleher of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Lucille of Seattle, WA; 25 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: James (Madalyn), Charles, and Francis "Handy", and a brother-in-law Karl Kelleher.
