Mary E. Hermanson, 93, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Jim Dubert and Deacon Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.


Mary Ellen Hermanson was born October 31, 1920, the daughter of Jeremiah and Maude (Marsden) O'Hare in Waukon, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Mary attended rural country schools in the Waukon area and Waukon High School. On February 8, 1937 she married Richard Francis Hermanson at St. Mary's Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon. Mary was a sales person for Fuller Brush Company for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and devoted to her prayer time. Mary enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children: Richard James (Linda) Hermanson of Waterville, IA, Shirley (Ray) Wacker of Boscobel, WI, and David (Angie) Hermanson of Hopkinton, IA; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother William (Janet) O'Hare of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard who died in 1988; a son Robert Vincent Hermanson; an infant grandson Sam Allan Hermanson; and a sister Loretta Snitker.

Casketbearers are Cary, Brian, Devin, and Mason Hermanson, and Ray and Steve Wacker.
