Mary P. Berger, 83, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Mary Patricia Berger was born on September 25, 1925 in Cedar Rapids IA, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Prohaska) Roman. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in Cedar Rapids in 1944. Following high school, Mary worked at the Wilson Meat Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids. She married Donald B. Berger on August 27, 1949 in Iowa City. A few years later they moved to Waukon where she has lived ever since.
Mary was an avid sports fan, especially following the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed bowling and golfing and also collected stamps, coins and spoons. Many of Mary's favorite times were spent visiting with and following the activities of her grand and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her son Darold (Debbie) Berger of Waukon; a grandson, David (Audrey) Berger and their children, Damon and Dawson and a granddaughter, Dacia (Brian) Regan and their children, Brody, Ireland, Bren and Owen all of Waukon; and 5 brothers, Frank, Tony, Joe (Barb), Louis (Mary Lou) and George (Cecelia) Roman and 2 sisters, Aggie Thomas and Helen (Roger) Bleitz all of Cedar Rapids. She is preceded in death by parents; her husband Donald, who died in 1994; and one sister, Ann Milota.
