Marlene E. Smith, 64, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. A celebration of Marlene's life will be held Saturday, September 27th, at 1:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Waukon, with Warren Barr officiating. It was Marlene's wishes to be cremated.

Marlene Ellen Smith was born July 28, 1944, the daughter of Roy and Dorothy (Mahaffey) Parker in Charles City, IA. On September 10, 1960 she married William E. Waterworth, they had four children. They were later divorced. On April 18, 1974 she married William Robert Smith in Postville, IA. They lived in Waukon where they owned and operated M & B Used Furniture Store for several years. Marlene also worked at the C-Mart convenience store and the Fireplace Restaurant both in Waukon. Marlene and Bill enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States. She also enjoyed taking rides in the countryside, playing pool, bowling, playing cards and spending time at her computer.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of Waukon; her children, Bernita (Tom) Kessel of Waukon, Joann (George) Risinger of Tucson, AZ, William Jr. (D'Lisa) Waterworth and Roy (Sally) Waterworth both of Waukon; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (Mary Ann) Parker of Charles City, IA; her mother-in-law, Esther Smith of Postville; 3 sisters-in-law, Sylvia Roffman of Waukon, Lorraine (Maury) Gallagher of Postville, and Donna (Stan) Franklin of Henderson, NV; and a brother-in-law, Stephen M. Smith of Postville; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Deloris Martin and Lucille Parker; her father-in-law, Ivan Smith; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Kervin.

Honorary casketbearers are Nyles Ebeling, Justin, Parker and Perry Kessel, Tyrell Monserud, Scott Onsager, Logan Stiner, Cody and Dylan Waterworth.
