Marlend Carl Meyer

November 18, 1929 — March 23, 2010

Marlend C. Meyer, 80, of Spring Grove, MN, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 28th, at 2:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor James Olsen officiating. Marlend Carl Meyer was born on November 18, 1929 in Fortuna, ND, the son of Albert and Sadie (Holmes) Meyer. When he was nine years old he moved with his family to the Sand Cove area near New Albin, IA. Marlend attended the rural area schools and worked driving truck for his brother, Albert Jr. From March 1, 1951 until February 20, 1953 he served in the US Army, seeing much of his duty in Ulm, Germany. Following his discharge, he returned to New Albin where he again worked with his brother in the logging business. On December 11, 1954 he married Sylvia Macauley in Waukon. They were later divorced, but remained friends through the years. Marlend continued to work with Albert for many years. In 1965 they began operating a saw mill in New Albin. In the late 1960s Albert bought the Timberjack Logging Equipment business and Marlend traveled all over the country working as a mechanic and repairing machinery. He met Audrey Lunde in 1979 and they were married several years later. Marlend and Albert also operated saw mills in Hamburg, IA and Illinois until 1984 when they sold the local operations and opened a saw mill in North Dakota. When that mill burned, Marlend went to work running an irrigation system for a potato famer. He retired in 1992 and moved to Spring Grove, MN and worked part time for the Spring Valley golf course.

Marlend was a member of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post 5603 in New Albin. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt, fish, and spend a lot of time in his garden. He also did numerous woodworking projects.
