Mark G. Mauss, 101, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 19th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Slepicka, Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg, and Deacon Bill Mauss officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 2:45 pm scripture service.
Mark George Mauss was born April 19, 1914, in the Gruber Ridge area, rural New Albin, IA, the son of George and Florence (Hammel) Mauss. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin and graduated from New Albin High School. On October 15, 1940, he married Mary Agatha Zoll at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. They lived in Akron, OH, during WW II where he worked for Goodrich Rubber. Mark's life was essentially spent in sales. His first sales job was selling "Successful Farming" magazine, and he was in sales with Fuller Brush for several years. Mark then started his career in car sales with E.F. Johnson Pontiac Dealership in Waukon. In 1952, he bought the Chevrolet Dealership in Waukon and later adding Pontiac and Oldsmobile to the dealership before retiring in 1977.
Mark was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Matthew's Council 1570, and Waukon Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, working in his garden, and taking fishing trips to Canada, traveling, especially to Brownsville, TX, where he and Mary spent several winters.
Survivors include his children: Carol (Bill) Heffron of Bloomington, MN, Tom (Karol) Mauss of Gig Harbor, WA, Bill (Darlene) Mauss of Dubuque, IA, and Tim (Sue) Mauss of Tacoma, WA; seven grandchildren: Molly Wangler, Shelley Sprouffske, Michael Mauss, Mark Heffron, Zach, Ben, and Brandon Mauss; and a sister-in-law Laurayne Mauss of New Albin. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary who died in 2001; three brothers: Bernard and his wife Lucille, Cornelius "Connie" and his wife Beatrice, and Fred Mauss.
