Marie Loomis

Marie K. Loomis, 89, of Lansing, IA, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at her home. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, starting at 3:00 PM at Coffee on the River in Lansing. Burial of ashes will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing is assisting the family.

Marie Katherine Loomis was born November 16, 1933, in Lansing, IA, the daughter of Forrest and Josephine Theodora (Damon) Sheriff. She attended high school through 10th grade and later received her GED. On August 12, 1950, she married Edward L. Loomis. Ed died on October 26, 2000. Before Marie retired, she worked for the school districts in Franklin, IN, and Sylmar, CA, before moving to Andalusia, IL, to operate their small harbor. Marie had four sons and one daughter.

She is survived by three children: Lee Loomis of Lansing, IA, J'Neane (Kevin) Banks of Eldridge, IA, and Thomas (Sandy) Loomis of Beverly Hills, FL; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: George L. and Josephine T. (Damon) Whalen and her father Forrest O. Sheriff; and two sons: Dennis and George. Marie also had four brothers: Larry and David Sheriff, Greg Whalen, and Ken Rafael.
