Marie Louise (Ludeking) Gluck, 97, of Waukon, IA, passed away peacefully among her family and her son, Gilbert Gluck on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 27th, 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Marie was born at home, on a small farm near Waukon, along with her twin sister Marguerite on June 21, 1913. She was baptized at Zalmona Presbyterian Church on November 16, 1913, and had full communion on March 28, 1926. Marie worked on the farm as a child, while attending country schools. She graduated from grade school in 1928, and then married Edward 'Eddie' Gluck on December 21, 1935, in Waterloo, IA. Marie was a homemaker, and after her husband passed away in 1960, she dedicated the rest of her life, caring for her daughter Vicki, diagnosed with Down syndrome. She also was the caretaker of her mother, Mattie, whom lived with her for many years. Marie enjoyed fishing with her husband, tending to her garden, and baking and canning various items from the garden. She especially enjoyed sitting on the porch, socializing with family, friends and neighbors, watching the passing cars. She was an active member of her church, First Presbyterian Church, until she entered Good Samaritan on May 19, 2006. While at Good Samaritan Marie enjoyed many friends, and still had a sharp mind, and great spirit. She received daily visits from her daughter, son and family, and her granddaughter enjoyed hearing all the old stories from days long ago.
Survivors include her son, Gilbert 'Bertie' Gluck of Waukon; her daughter Vicki Marie Gluck of Waukon; granddaughter Candy (Gluck) Mannette of Waukon; grandson Kim Bernatz of Waukon; 10 great grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, George C. Ludeking; her mother Mattie Alvina (Snitker) Ludeking; her husband, Edward Everett Gluck; a daughter in infancy; her twin sister Marguerite (Ludeking) Goepel; 2 brothers, Alfred and Lawrence Ludeking; daughter-in-law, Fay (Lane) Gluck; granddaughter Cindy Sue (Bernatz) Perez and a grandson, Randy Bernatz.
Honorary casket bearers are Keith and Randy Mason, Gilbert Gluck and Bervene Ludeking. Casket bearers are Drew and Kim Bernatz, Kenny Fahey, Gordon and Michael Kaeser and Keith Schroeder.
